June 2008

Transitions aren’t always easy, but they’re usually necessary. The first semester at the Peru Bible College is coming to an end which means that my days as a professor there are numbered. I’ve really enjoyed teaching the last four months on an introduction to missions and Islam. It’s been a huge blessing and a wonderful experience for me to have a small part in the lives of these young Bible college students. They truly have a heart to glorify the Lord by doing their part in taking His gospel to the uttermost parts of the earth.

The Muslim prayer group, however, is still going strong. We had to split the group in half, and now we meet both Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Six Peruvians in our group are committed to taking the gospel to the Muslims of Africa, and another ten are seriously praying about the possibility. Raising up laborers from South America is one of my major goals in the short time we have in Peru, and it’s exciting to see the results that the Lord has already given. In August, I plan on traveling more and presenting the ministry in North Africa in the churches which work with us throughout South America.

English classes also came to an end a couple of weeks ago. The class went together and bought me some authentic Peruvian gifts (mainly alpaca apparel). There was such a sweet spirit the night of graduation, and one student who has been attending my classes for over a year and a half accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior that night. That’s what it’s all about.

Gretchen and I will only be in Peru for a few more months before we make our next big transition of moving to North Africa permanently. In October we will be leaving South America. Even though we will be living on the continent of Africa, the Spanish enclave of Ceuta is still very European in its economy (based on the Euro), which means that we will need to raise a little more support in order to start a church there. We hope to be in and out of the States within six months from October. Right now we’re lining up meetings trying to fill the schedule before we leave Peru.

Please be praying for us as we take this huge step. We’ll have a whole new set of challenges ahead of us, but we’re excited about planting a church in an area of the world that has been without the gospel for centuries. Your prayers will make a difference.
